What a great Thursday club night we had at our new home, The Alex Irvine Radio Centre, in Paisley. The place was full of enthusiastic radio hams (16 by my count). Julian GM7MTK was showing Paul (foundation training) and Devon MM7MVR his HF international travel setup, complete with solar power management and power amplifier. Julian used this kit recently for over a month in western USA. Eddie MM7YZX was debating DX and the great question of ‘At what distance to do you become a DX contact?’. This one may run for a few weeks. Chris MM7DVZ and Kevin MM6VKO were operating FT8 with the club’s Yaesu FT897 in the shack. Bob MM0XNC was showing Eric 2M0VGT (a Yaesu man), some of the cool functions of the club’s Icom 7300. Buzz MM7GMS was true to his name and didn’t stop the whole night. He does remind me of the James Garner character from The Great Escape. If you need something - we know who to call. Graham 2M0IJU has arranged satellite internet for club nights and was also completing our 2m VHF setup with a bespoke vertical dipole. Jim GM0NAE was in his usual seat keeping everything under control, and once again arranged for another past member, Pat MM0PJQ to come along to the club. Stuart MM0PAZ was enjoying seeing all the enthusiasm and along with Buzz doing what they could to assist our landlords with a faulty fire detection system. Lots of other members were happy to talk and catch up with old pals. Many of us were still chatting outside half an hour after we had locked the door. It must be said, the combined talents and experience that this group have, and are willing to share, gives the club all it needs for very bright future.
